Doubtful Sound or Milford Sound
Both fiords sit in Fiordland and both are visited by boat. The practical difference is the journey. Milford Sound has a road and a terminal where the boats leave. For Doubtful Sound, RealNZ starts at the Manapouri Visitor Centre, 64 Waiau Street. You cross Lake Manapouri by boat, ride a bus over the Wilmot Pass and board the fiord boat at Deep Cove.
That chain of transfers is why the day trip is long. This page compares the two on facts that decide a trip, such as time, price and what you can combine. It does not rank the scenery. If you are still deciding, read the Milford Sound cruise guide next to this one.
